Pakistanis cannot praise weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt, who won gold for the country at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a record lift of 405kg.
This is the first gold medal for Pakistan in any category in the matches held in the British city of Birmingham.
Butt has set a new Commonwealth Games record by lifting 173kg in the 109kg and above jerks. Butt also set another record when lifting 232 kg in the recoil event. Overall, he lifted 405 kg – another CWG record.
Due to his achievement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the athlete for giving Pakistan a proud moment.
A Twitterati told the Prime Minister that praise is not enough to mark the event and that an overpass must bear Butt’s name.
In response, the prime minister said, “Or a dam?”
It is unclear whether Prime Minister Shehbaz was serious about naming a dam after Butt or he jokingly said it.
