Man Utd’s Ten Hag rules out Ronaldo’s ‘sale’ – SUCH TV
New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag on Monday said Cristiano Ronaldo is “not for sale”, even though the Portuguese superstar has skipped a pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.
Ronaldo missed training session starting with the Premier League giants last week due to family issues.
The 37-year-old has not flown on his pre-season trip, with reports saying he wants to leave after United failed to qualify for the Champions League. Speaking ahead of the club’s first pre-season friendly at Old Trafford against Liverpool in Bangkok on Tuesday, Ten Hag said: “We’re planning Cristiano Ronaldo for the season and that’s it and I looking forward to working with him
“I have read it but what I am saying is that Cristiano is not for sale, he is in our plans and we want to succeed together.” .
“I talked to him before this problem happened,” Ten Hag said.
“I had a talk with him and we had a really good talk.”
However, he refused to be fired over the content of the conversation, saying it was ‘between Cristiano and me’.
Ronaldo is said to have asked to leave after he was unhappy with the club’s poor form since returning to Manchester last year – they finished sixth in the Premier League, sending them relegation two Europa League next season.
Ten Hag only arrived at United in May after completing a spell of success at Ajax – but faced the huge challenge of rebuilding the Old Trafford club that has not won a trophy since 2017
Ronaldo scored 24 goals in all competitions last season and has been named the club’s player of the year.
Ten Hag also said England defender Harry Maguire will remain as club captain.
