Oscars group elects Janet Yang as new president
Los Angeles: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has elected film producer Janet Yang as new president, the team behind the Oscars announced Tuesday.
Yang, best known for hit films like “The Joy Luck Club” and “The People vs. Larry Flynt,” became the fourth woman to be elected to lead the elite group of filmmakers. of Hollywood and the first of Asian descent.
Academy members vote for the Oscar winners each year, while the group recently opened a massive new film museum in Los Angeles that has been planned for decades.
In a statement, Academy CEO Bill Kramer specifically praised Yang’s work on “member recruitment, governance, equity, diversity and inclusion,” among other areas.
